Support Assistant

Educational Technology Support Assistants work along with full-time staff in the Media Lab (LIB 180) and the HSB Computer Lab (HSB 109). The Support Assistant helps users in the computer lab & classrooms with hardware/software problems, database input, assist in videoconference support, as well as general clerical and housekeeping responsibilities.

 

Employment Guidelines:
  • Student workers are limited to 25 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • International students are restricted to 20 hours.
  • During the Summer and Winter breaks, all students may work up to 37.5 hours per week.
  • Student workers must maintain an eligible student status to hold their position. Students must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours in the Fall and Spring semesters. Students for the Summer semester need only be registered for the following Fall Semester.
  • Late evening hours and/or weekend hours may be required.

  • Familiarity with Windows NT/98/2000/XP, Macintosh OS 9/OS X, Microsoft Office applications, scanning, printing, digital audio/video editing, and the Internet. Unix experience desirable.
  • Must participate in personal interview.
  • If selected for employment, you MUST attend orientation/training sessions before you can start working.
  • Responsibilities:  (Customer service is the core of our responsibilities)

    • Direct and assist users with accessing lab software applications, accessing email and on-line courses.
    • Accurately follow check-out/check-in procedures of loan equipment and materials.
    • Maintain lab cleanliness and ensure users are complying with lab usage guidelines.
    • Aid in routine computer & peripheral maintenance and report problems with software and hardware to supervisors.
    • Attend periodic workshops to maintain currency in software applications.
    • Paper and toner maintenance of printers.
    • Clerical work which includes answering telephone calls, taking messages, routing information to supervisors, data entry, and other miscellaneous tasks.
